Psychological Testing Services

What is Psychological Testing?

Sometimes the source of an individual’s problems is not clear. For instance, if a teenager is having trouble focusing in school, are these challenges related to anxiety, ADHD, trauma, or a combination of different factors?

Psychological testing and assessment can help you understand a problem’s origin and nature and determine the best course of treatment.

The testing process may involve multiple assessment tools such as questionnaires, symptom checklists, personality profiles, standardized IQ tests, computer-based attention tests, or in-depth Clinical Interviews.

Dr. Soriano and his staff will also review school and medical records and counseling notes to determine the best course of action and treatment. Testing results are delivered in an easy-to-understand format and designed to help you make the most informed decision about your treatment moving forward.

Currently, psychological evaluations are offered for the following diagnoses:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • PTSD
  • Autism Spectrum Disorder
  • Talented/gifted IQ
  • Personality Disorders
  • Neuropsychological
  • ADHD
  • Disability
  • Pre-surgical (Bariatric and Pain)

Psychological Assessment and Counseling Working Together

While some group counseling practices operate with each counselor working independently, we embrace a team-oriented approach. If your counselor notices you might be showing signs of ADHD, for example, we can promptly refer you for in-house psychological testing. At Lighthouse Counseling, you work with your counselor or therapist and a team of professionals dedicated to providing comprehensive and targeted care.

Below is additional information about some of the most common types of tests and assessments Lighthouse offers:

ADHD Testing

There’s no single test to diagnose Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Children and adults are typically diagnosed early in life with ADHD but may be experiencing signs of depression, anxiety, or other major health issues that need addressing. Misdiagnosing ADHD or not treating the correct problem can result in severe consequences for children, adolescents, and adults, making it critical to consult a psychologist who can accurately diagnose the condition.

Even if you or a loved one have already been diagnosed with ADHD by a physician, a comprehensive evaluation could provide the accuracy you need to shift treatment strategies or explore new ways to manage issues with attention and concentration.

Neurocognitive and Dementia Screenings

Lighthouse Counseling can provide clarification with targeted testing if you are concerned about problems resulting from a head injury, see signs of age-related cognitive decline, or want to know if a medical problem is causing memory declines.

Individuals demonstrating significant problems with memory loss, concentration, forgetting names, or an inability to recall recent conversations or instructions may benefit from neurocognitive or dementia testing.

Social Security or Forensic Evaluations

Dr. Soriano and his team can help individuals appeal rejections from Social Security disability or can complete psychological evaluations to assist with attaining Social Security Disability or Long-term disability. These evaluations can be complex and may involve multiple interviews, different tests, and the summarization of multiple medical or legal documents.

Bariatric Evaluations and other Medical Evaluations

Many medical procedures or treatments require a pre-surgical psychological evaluation or testing to assess the patient’s readiness and preparedness for surgery. Weight loss surgery, also known as bariatric surgery, is one of the more common presurgical assessments at Lighthouse Counseling.

Other medical settings which prescribe potentially habit-forming substances, such as pain clinics, may mandate psychological testing or substance abuse evaluations to pre-screen patients within their clinic.
